History of the Club

The Rotary Club of New Britain came into being on April 20, 1921.  Its organizer and charter President was Leon Sprague, secretary of the New Britain Chamber of Commerce.  It was the first such service club to be established in the community.  Since its inception, the club has raised many hundreds of thousands of dollars benefiting a variety of community as well as international projects.

The 65-member club is part of Rotary International District 7890, which includes more than 65 clubs representing the northwestern section of Connecticut and western section of Massachusetts.  In 1998, our name was officially changed to the Rotary Club of New Britain-Berlin, reflective of the communities we serve.
