The New Britain-Berlin Rotary Club now sponsors an Interact Club at New Britain High School. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people aged 14 to 18. The club held its first organizational meetings in October, 2004 and received its formal charter in 2005. Interact is a combination of the words “International” and “action.” Clubs are designed to help students develop leadership skills, and gain practical experience in conducting school and community projects. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. The first Interact club was formed in Melbourne, Florida in 1962. Today, there are more than 10,000 clubs in 118 countries with a worldwide membership of 230,000 youth. Our Interact Club at New Britain High School begins its sixth year with new officers and a new dedication to school and community service. We continue to support the Ivan Lendl Wheelchair tennis camp for which we recently received commendation for our ten-year involvement and the Pisk Golf Tournament that encourages young male and female golfers at both local high schools. To borrow the slogan of Interact we intend to have another year of “serious fun” and thank all of our members for the spirit of cooperation and service that has made us one of the top Rotary Clubs in District 7890. The newly elected officers of the NBHS Interact club for 2009-2010 are:
